The witness spoke at length and at one point said he wished that the conflict between Catalonia and Spain be resolved in a "democratic" way. At that point the judge intervened and warned him not to offer political opinions.

Grünberg added that he was surprised that despite the intimidation - both physical and verbal - of the Spanish police, the voters didn't respond with violence. His testimony flatly contradicts that of various Guardia Civil earlier this week who spoke of a violent crowd.
